The situational quality check : "Is this good or bad?"

Sure... we've all heard it a lot. "It's not that simpel!" and "That's just the way it is" and "Everybody does it this way" etc...

Ok, we get it.

A lot of things are just too complicated to be bothered with right? So we have to make it simple, but not too simple , because things aren’t that simple.

But be sure to summarize that in the 5 second window of attention I’m capable of. Simple.

And if something is “bad” , then we prefer not to see it. Solved!

But that’s really strange, since none of us were born that way. How could we have been?

So we had to have learned that reflex somewhere , because it’s very counter to life itself. It’s very different from anything “good”. That’s super obvious.

(Do you feel your first “It’s not that simple’s” bubbling in your brain already? uh-oooooh)

Imagine a life form walking around in the jungle and the only thing it can see is food within arms reach , the only thing it hears are beautiful song birds, and only beautiful flowers and stuff.

And everything else…

the dangerous animals, the rivers and mountains, the height differences, the bad weather, temperatures outside absolute comfort and such…
all those just don’t exist. Just like a worm that’s born without any eyes…
They can’t see… and they don’t mind. So all good.

That lifeform just can’t see anything not good because that would be “uncomfortable”.

And that’s bad right? So this lifeform doesn’t perceive that.
It simply doesn’t register it, just like we don’t register radio waves, yet they’re there.

I don’t think that life-form is going to go anywhere really.
It doesn't sound evolutionary sound.
And in case that’s too simple… here’s an explanation for why. ;)

Because it’s not that simple right? And everybody does this… so it’s ok right?

That life form will stumble over the first non-flat surface it comes across…
Smack it’s face straight into the ground and wait there in total blisfull oblivion until something else comes and eats it.
But it’s going to go through all of that with this big grin of a smile on it’s face… because it never perceived anything negative at all.

Life is either completely perfect , or there’s literally absolutely nothing there. It would probably think that the trip down to the ground was an amusement park ride’s rollercoaster with the wind flowing through it’s hair… and then … darkness and silence. Ahaaa… time to sleep. Great. I’ll do that. :) All good.

You’re too busy and too bored at the same, since no matter what you’re doing or where you are… you’re already waiting anxiously to be able to escape into that other thing and place and activity you’re dreaming of. Anywhere but this right here. All good!

And then you’re there , and guess what… the same thing followed you again. All good!

You also always have way too many things, but never have enough and are always craving whatever someone else has. All good!

But there are big things that are taking care of everything , so everything must be ok. I don’t need to understand them, since that’s complicated and it isn’t that simple. All good!

No matter what you’re worried about there is this really big organization somewhere that is “working on it” and things will be fixed. They said so. All good!

So what you feel and think is just to be ignored and forgotten… it’s called being “anxious” and that’s a disease for which we can give you things to escape too.
And before it becomes a disease there are plenty of things you can escape in too by yourself too.
Most are called “addictions”. And it’s ok to be a little bit of it , but not too much. But the level of that is basically that it’s always bad. So… All good!

Too complicated? Or not complicated enough? Too simple? Or not simple enough?

Hang on , I’ve got just the thing for you. Here comes the same story but then DATA driven!
We need statistics people , or it’s not even real.
How could we determine good or bad without copious amounts of DATA!

Ok , let’s go!

Everyone’s always thinking about “What’s popular”, “what’s the trend” , “what’s good!” etc…
And there’s a thing called “Media” which is the sum of all information created by humans and not by actual reality itself. I’m talking about letters, books, music, dancing, plays, audiovisual material , the internet , etc..

We do polls and gather statistics about all of it, to continuously detect and predict what’s “popular” .
But nobody ever checks what’s unpopular… since that’s not profitable content right?

Why would we ever look at that? And anyways… it’s really popular to talk about bad things that cause fights , since it’s really popular to watch bad things actually.

But still it’s fascinating to do statistical research about the opposite of that. And not just “what isn’t popular” … but… what is decidedly “revolting” to the masses. What sort of content is guaranteed to bring absolute zero interest. What are the things that literally nobody wants to consume? The stuff that even the person making it throws away and then be absolutely right about it. the “This sentence should never have existed” type of content. How would the statistics about that look?

Now I’m sure you’ve identified a “group of media content” which you consider to be “the wrong kind of content”, and you feel that all will be well if just that “wrong content” would be removed from whatever media you are thinking of… right?

But… sadly…

All that hate slop is sort of in the middle and doesn't count as revolting in this data sphere. Those are just the things you disagree with , and others love to watch someone else disagree for some strange reason. Or atleast , that’s what the statistics about media tell you, so that has to be good right?

Since we all know that hate slop is pretty popular to hateful people. And if a lot of people consume it and spread it , we can hardly call that “unpopular” or “bad content” right?
It’s doing exactly what the predictions based on the statistical data has promised. It’s popular , since it’s consumed more then other groups of content. And that makes money, so… All good!

So what would be the “opposite” of “the trend” in all media content then?
If “hate speech” doesn't fit that bill?

There’s a certain topical group of messages and products that are decidedly “Revolting” to all humans in all cultures and across all beliefs.

It’s called the truth about personal responsibility of perception.

Anything that even remotely comes close to describing what a human being might be doing that is self-destructive.
Something knowingly wrong for itself and it’s environment.

Any content that has even the slightest chance of coming close to personal responsibility for anything anywhere.

THAT is unpopular content.

And it can even get you killed to make it if you’re not careful. At the very least you will be told to go somewhere that tells you what to do from now on. And there’s probably some of escaping things needed in copious amounts.
But this time it’s NOT an addiction… this time.. it’s good!
And neccesary even!
All good!

So what do you think?
Is your direct environment… the information you consume and the people you talk too , the institutions you depend on for the very sustaining of life.
(Or can you do without all of them?)

Are they good or bad?

And do you think it’s a “good” strategy to ignore that… or is that a “bad” strategy?
